The New Year is upon us and with it comes the promise of fresh starts and infinite possibility. Everyone is knee deep in goal setting and thinking about the future they want to create. 

One of my favorite hacks is to think about how I want to feel in every area of my life (as Danielle LaPorte taught in her book, The Desire Map: A Guide to Creating Goals with Soul) and then reverse engineer those feelings into the goals and actions that will elicit them. 

Want some practical ideas that will uplevel your life? I gotcha covered, boo. Here are five New Year’s Resolutions that should absolutely be at the top of your list this year:

1. Spend 30 to 45 minutes each Sunday planning out the week ahead.

Review pending deadlines, appointments, activities, etc. Put together your daily looks for the week, so you can grab and go in the morning. Take it to the next level by carving out 10 to 20 minutes just for yourself each day.

2. Send a text to a different loved one every single day.

Funny meme, cheesy joke, creative haiku, favorite memory. The sky’s the limit. It’ll make you feel great to keep in touch and it’ll also brighten someone else’s day.

3. Before you go to bed, spend 5 minutes writing down your wins, no matter how big or small.

Stuck to your meal plan? Received a “You rock!” e-mail from your boss? Got out of bed? It all counts. Write it down and savor the energy of winning.  

4. Meditate for 60 seconds each day.

Close your eyes and place your hands on top of your heart space. Focus on your attention on your breath. This is especially helpful for those moments where you feel stressed, rushed, overwhelmed or worried. It’s a total reset on your system.

5. Make a NOT to-do list.

Get clear on what’s not worth your time, what doesn’t feel good and what you’re no longer available for. Add to this list every single day.
